Battered Womens Trust
Not so long ago, domestic violence was something many people pretended did not exist. As late as the 1970’s, women escaping violent family lives had no support from the law and no access to benefits or community agencies. At that time, society turned a blind eye to domestic violence. There certainly wasn’t the range of support available now.
In 1976, a group of a small group of women got together to do something about it. They started the Battered Women’s Support Group – a non-profit, voluntary telephone support group to support others in similar situations to themselves.
“We’re proud that each year, we support hundreds of women and children move towards safety.”
That group became one of the original 11 refuges which collaborated in 1979 to set up a national association of independent refuges. Their goal was to increase public understanding of the causes and effects of family violence through research, publication of books and papers on the issue.
By 1986 the group had re-formed as the Battered Women’s Trust, and was going from strength to strength.
From that initial group in 1976, we have evolved to offer a range of advocacy and education services as well as rural, safe housing, transitional housing and a 24-hour crisis line, plus more.

Fernside School
Fernside School is a 12-teacher, Year 1–8 school with a long 150 year history of providing quality educational provision for the students in the Fernside and surrounding areas.
We are currently operating in 3 teaching teams of 4 teachers plus learning support workers. We have an interesting mix of buildings, reflecting the long history of the school. In the middle and senior school, classrooms are in pairs with "breakout" spaces designed to maximise opportunities for collaborative teaching and learning. In the junior school single cell classrooms dominate, but even here teachers take every appropriate opportunity to share teaching and learning programmes.
As a rural school, we take pride in the connection we have with the local community and physical surroundings. Our school is proud to be a part of the Puketeraki Community of Learning. We believe we offer quality education in a safe, friendly and supportive learning environment. We are proud to be here.

Kaiapoi Food Forest
A food forest functions as a healthy closed-loop ecosystem, with each organism playing a role. Each element of the system supports the whole. The many relationships happening in an ecosystem are imitated in a food forest which:
• builds soil and accumulates nutrients
• self-fertilizes, self-mulches, self-regulates
• produces food, fiber, medicine, materials, fodder and more
• Sequesters Carbon, offsetting climate change
• provides habitat for all living organisms
• supports pollinators and beneficial insects
• protects and enhances biodiversity
If you would like to visit the Kaiapoi Food Forest.
You will find it on the corner Of Cass & Meadow Streets and Oram Place, Kaiapoi, New Zealand.
You will find 1.5 acres, with lots of fruit and perenial vegetables and open spaces to picnic.

Kaiapoi North School
Kaiapoi North School opened in 1962 meaning that in 2012 we celebrated our 50th Jubilee. We are a “full primary” school catering for Year 1-8 children in our spacious, vibrant and well-maintained school. As well as 23 classrooms we have a specialist music room, a welcoming library, a hall large enough for our whole school assemblies and a large, safe playground. In 2016-2018 we undertook a major building project which saw new classroom blocks built and the refurbishment of existing classrooms.
Our children live within the Kaiapoi township, in The Pines Beach and Kairaki Beach. Kaiapoi is approximately 15 minutes north of Christchurch. In 2010 and 2011 our town was shaken by earthquakes with some of our properties classified red. Our community have supported each other through these tough times and through our strength we have ensured our children have been given emotional support to assist them with what they have experienced. Over 2,000 additional sections are planned to be completed in Kaiapoi by the end of 2020 so we are seeing a period of sustained growth as we welcome new families into our town and school community.

North Canterbury Four Wheel Drive (4WD) Club
We aim to provide a safe and enjoyable 4WD experience for owners of 4WD vehicles with a dual range gearbox. This safety and enjoyment comes from everyone working together towards a common goal.
Why join a club?
Clubs have a wide range of 4WD expertise and experience gained over many years, and this is passed on to new members through training, during trips and around the bar.
Travelling as part of a club convoy allows you to venture into much tougher ground than you could on your own. Some members belong just for the monthly meetings, an opportunity to swap technical information and talk 4WD.
The NC4WD Club endorses the Tread Lightly Code of Ethics, and members are required to abide by this. The committee can then guarantee the conduct of club members when gaining access from authorities or landowners to areas that would otherwise be off- limits.
Like all organisations you will get out of it what you put into it.

Northern Agricultural and Pastoral Association
The Northern Agricultural and Pastoral Association celebrates North Canterbury’s proud rural heritage and promotes high-quality farming and cultivation.
Our story begins with the local farmers’ clubs of the 1860s, which were set up to improve agricultural practices across the area through competitions and lectures.
In 1866, a group of these progressive farmers founded the Northern A&P Association and held North Canterbury’s first show, which drew a crowd of more than 1200 people.
More than 150 years later, our dedicated team of volunteers continues to bring town and country together through a range of rural-focused events.
Our highlight of the year is the Rangiora Show, which attracts competitors and visitors from across Canterbury and the South Island. The two-day event features some of our region’s best equestrian and rural sporting talent, plus livestock from top local breeders.
In winter, our committee organises an annual hay and silage competition to recognise North Canterbury farmers who are leading the way with their quality growing practices.
Our Association also provides facilities for the entire community. The Rangiora Showgrounds are the home of many local equestrian and sporting clubs, including the local pony club and polo club. In recent years, they’ve also become an outdoor events space, alongside our pavilion and independently-run Function Centre.
Everything we offer is made possible by our generous and hard-working team of volunteers, plus our community sponsors and supporters.
We’re proud of our longstanding role in North Canterbury and we’re here to ensure our rural traditions can be enjoyed by many more generations to come.

Oxford Alpine Taekwondo
Oxford Alpine Taekwondo is a Kukkiwon-style Taekwondo martial arts club that provides a local community based programme for families and individuals to learn.
Taekwondo (Tae Kwon Do or sometimes just TKD) is beneficial to its members because it helps develop respect, trust and open communication. It also promotes values such as honesty, courtesy, loyalty, and cooperation.
Taekwondo enhances self-esteem by heightening physical and mental abilities. It also builds confidence by encouraging people to succeed by attaining grades and participating in competitions during the year. It helps develop discipline by thoroughly training the body and mind in the tenets and techniques of Taekwondo.
Our classes also teach self-defence by showing students how to recognise situations in which physical self-defence may be necessary, and teaching how to control such situations to their advantage, as well as strengthening minds and bodies through increased physical coordination and mental discipline.

He is risen, He is awesome; may all the world know Him.
Luke 12:32, ”Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.”

Pegasus Bay School
Our school was founded in 1873 and is nearly 150 years old now!
There have been many changes over the years the most notable change in our recent history was our relocation from our site at Waikuku to our new school in Pegasus in 2014 when (then) Prime Minister John Key came to have a look around and formally open our school.
Families move to our area for the coastal / rural lifestyle and our school reflects this. It is a school that lets children be children - wear bare feet, climb, get grazes and have fun. We value all that is great about our place - the beaches, the lake, the forest, the wetlands, the river and the history of our area. These features are integral parts to how we teach and what we teach. We are a school for adventurers, for creators and for thinkers.
A central theme for us is that our children must become Kaitiaki (which broadly translates as guardians). People say that we need to leave a better planet for our children - we say that we need to leave better and more informed children for our planet.
We also embrace all that technology has to offer, and have been recognised as an Apple Distinguished School for 2018 - 2020 for our innovative implementation of Apple technology in teaching and learning. The Apple Distinguished School designation is reserved for programmes that meet criteria for innovation, leadership, and educational excellence, and demonstrate a clear vision of exemplary learning environments.
Our vision for the integration of educational technologies in teaching and learning affirms the transformative role they can play in our students’ education during their time at our school and beyond.
We have an open door policy here, and we want to know what you are thinking - so if there's something you think we've done well and should know about, or you have a concern about something, or you have an idea you'd like to share - please get in touch. You can pop in, phone or email. If I'm not about, then Micky, my PA, is a good person to speak to.

Pines & Kairaki Beach Association Inc
The Pines and Kairaki Beaches Association Inc was founded in 1929, originally as “The Pines Association.” In the early years, the association provided the settlements with a variety of public facilities, including a playground, improved toilets and changing sheds, a public water well and the community hall. In addition, many of these projects were self-funded, using the proceeds generated from the association’s annual gala. The association has also played a vital role in lobbying local authorities for better living conditions, contributing to the installation of electricity, the sewerage system and other core infrastructural projects.
Today, The PKBA continues to play a significant role in the Pines and Kairaki communities. The PKBA organizes a variety of community events all throughout the year, including beach clean-ups, Christmas parties, public fireworks, potluck dinners and the annual community gala (although this event is currently on hold). In addition, the PKBA has done its up-most to support residents through the aftermath of the 2010-11 Canterbury Earthquakes, during which many homes and community facilities were badly damaged.

Rangiora Borough School
Kia Ora and welcome to Rangiora Borough School
Rangiora Borough School has been at the heart of education in Rangiora for more than 130 years. There have been a lot of changes in society and to education over this time. We are currently in the grips of constant technological change. We strive to educate our students and give them the skills and attitudes required to be part of these many changes.
We pride ourselves in the individual achievements that our students make whether academic, sporting, or social. We aim to extend our students through a variety of activities that are available through our various extension programmes.
Even though we are a big school we promote small school values. The promotion of our safe physical and emotional learning environment alongside the positive partnerships that we foster here has led to a steady increase in our roll.
Here at school we promote our ‘Making the Right Choices’ programme which encourages the children to be independent and responsible with their everyday decisions.

Rangiora Newcomers Network
Over recent years, New Zealand has become home to an increasingly diverse range of people and communities from different cultures. Many of these new settlers are migrants seeking new opportunities in New Zealand, while others are refugees who, for different reasons, are unable to remain in their homelands.
For anyone settling into a new country, there are the immediate concerns to contend with – finding a home, a job and schools for your children. Beyond these initial imperatives, there are ongoing challenges such as making new friends, understanding the language, accents and different ways of your new country and finding the confidence and support for a migrant to maintain and enjoy their own culture in their new setting. It is for these reasons that Newcomers Networks were established.

Rangiora Photographic Society
The Rangiora Photographic Society was formed in 1945 by a small group of enthusiastic people with a common interest in photography and a desire to share their knowledge and experience – an ethos that continues to underpin the Society’s values.
Today, RPS has a thriving membership of well over 100 photographers covering a wide range of ages, photographic skills, and preferences. People join RPS for more than a common interest in photography; but also to learn, have adventures, and enjoy the fellowship that the Society
is well known for.
There are many reasons for RPS’s success, including a dynamic programme of relevant and engaging speakers, exciting field trips, challenging competitions, tutorials, and workshops covering a wide range of topics. But possibly the single biggest factor in our success is the members themselves. RPS members are known as ‘the lively bunch’ – full of energy, fun, and a passion for photography that is so infectious that it is sought out by people from all over the North Canterbury region, as well as Christchurch.
The Society is privileged to have Andris Apse and David Wethey as its Patrons, two photographers who arguably lead their respective fields in New Zealand.
Our Vision statement : Fun, Friendship, Photography.

Sefton School
Sefton School is a co-educational state school with a roll of around 128 pupils. The school has a low student turn over. The full socio-economic range is represented at the school with 93% of pupils of NZ European descent and the remaining 7% of Māori and Pacific Islands background. We recognize our commitment to the treaty of Waitangi by ensuring that every pupil is enriched by an environment which values and reflects New Zealand’s bicultural heritage. The school is set in a very pleasant environment with a large grass playing area and many well established shade trees. Part of this area has been developed as an outdoor classroom. We have 6 full time classrooms and a separate administration, library block and community swimming pool. As a school we embrace the use of technology as an education tool. Sefton is a small rural community 10kms from Rangiora and 30kms from Christchurch. The village is served by a school, garage, hotel, and community hall. During the past 15-20 years farm sizes have reduced and life style block subdivisions have led to a roll growth and the implementation of a “school zone”. Parent’s occupations vary, with some commuting to Christchurch, but there is a strong community spirit and high level of parental interest in the school’s activities. Sefton School is part of the Puketeraki Community of Learning and is working within this group on a set of Achievement Challenges to raise achievement in the North Canterbury Area.

St Barnabas Church
We’re committed to community – being a worshipping community, a discipling community and ‘Jesus with skin on’ to the community around us. We welcome, accept and forgive each other, no matter what. We’re here for each other in practical ways. We challenge each other to grow in our knowledge and understanding of Scripture, especially the redeeming and revitalising work of Jesus. And we seek to glorify Him and lead others to Him by loving and serving our local community in genuine ways.
St B’s is a single-church parish with two congregations and a number of groups doing life, prayer and outreach together. The 9:30 is the more traditional and formal liturgical service whereas the 4:32 is a little more ‘laid-back’.
Visit and you’ll become a friend for life; stay a while and you’ll find a home regardless of where life takes you in the future.

Waimakariri Sailing Club
Our family friendly club has been situated on the banks of the beautiful Waimakariri River for over 90 years and in that time, it has grown from strength to strength.
To quote Ratty from Wind in the Willows "There is nothing - absolutely nothing, half so worth doing as - simply messing around in boats!" and that is what we do at the Waimakariri Sailing Club.
If you are competitive and want to get out racing then we have regular sailing days throughout the summer and when the weather allows over winter.
If you just want to go sailing then we are seeing more and more interest in adventure sailing, and if you want to a mixture of both then that is completely up to you.
Our club runs a very popular ongoing learn to sail program for kids, adults and families. We use the numerous boats that the club owns, some of which have been kindly donated by locals, to sail on as a group in our trailer sailers or in one and two person boats. We encourage everyone to get involved where they are comfortable, either on the water or on land and encourage all members to help make our club a wonderful place to messing around with boats.
We welcome all adventurers to come down and meet our team and learn more about our club, facilities and members.
See you all on the water.
