In the North Canterbury Division One competition, Glenmark Cheviot retained the Deans Shield with a 20-3 win over Hurunui. Netball was the last of the major winter codes to restart after lockdown, and the North Canterbury Netball Centre at Dudley Park was packed with keen netballers. The pandemic effected season will see two weeks grading to being with, before a Challenge round, and then a Competition Round. Twelve teams make up the Group 1 grading round. Rugby League was back on the park over the weekend for the first time since lockdown.  The Northern Bulldogs faced the Celebration Lions at Cuthberts Green, and picked up a 34-12 win.  The Canterbury Cup reserves travelled down to Ashburton to face the Barbarians, and they too got up over their opposition 46-20. This weekend saw the men’s and women’s division one hockey competitions begin on turfs around Canterbury.  The Rangiora teams were at home on the Waimakariri Turf, which saw the men’s team defeated by Southern 0-2. The North Canterbury Premier Men’s basketball side suffered a tough fought defeat, 63-71 at the hands of Pioneer over the weekend. Bede Marsters scored 15 points for the North Canterbury side, with Jordyn Kauta chipping in 12. Some of the women’s grades also began, with the North Canterbury U21 women going down 49-70 to StAC.
