10 August Advantage Ohoka One August 10, 2020 By Pam Fraser Sport With a round to play in the Challenge round of the North Canterbury Netball Centre Premier competition, Ohoka One have taken a 4point lead over Central in the standings. Ohoka One continued their unbeaten run defeating Amberley 57-39. Central stumbled with a loss 30-40 to Rangiora High Senior A, and in the third match Kaiapoi were dominant over Ohoka Two. Points: Ohoka One 16, Central 12, Rangiora High Snr A 9, Kaiapoi 8, Amberley 6, Ohoka Two 0. In the Senior A competition Kaiapoi High School saw of Oxford 34-32, Ashley defeated Rangiora High Senior B 35-16, and Central Three defeated Rangiora High 10A’s 29-14. Points: Kaiapoi High 16, Central Three 14, Ashley 11, Oxford 7, Rangiora High Snr B 5, Rangiora High 10A 0. Kaiapoi Two extended their lead at the top of the Senior Reserve competition with a 33-17 win over Central Four. Ohoka Four defeated Ashley 30-16, and in the closest match of the day, Woodend just managed to pip Kaiapoi Three, 27-26. Points: Kaiapoi Two 16, Ohoka Four 10, Kaiapoi Three 10, Woodend 9, Central Four 8, Ashley 1. It is still all tied at the top of the table between Fernside and Ashgrove, in the Future Ferns section A competition. Both had comfortable wins in the weekend, with Ashgrove defeating Ashley 38-6, and Fernside defeating Ohoka 41-5. The two teams will meet this weekend in the final round of the Challenge round. Ohoka Oh So Close The Kaiapoi division one rugby team remain unbeaten in the North Canterbury competition, after clocking up their 4th win on the trot. They defeated Ashley 44-10. This keeps them ahead of Glenmark Cheviot, who were kept to a 17-17 draw by Ohoka. Ohoka had the chance to create history and an upset from a late penalty, only to see it hit the crossbar. Oxford had a tense tussle with Hurunui, coming out the victors ... Canterbury A&P On-Farm Competition North Canterbury exhibitors flexed their collective muscle in the Canterbury A&P On-Farm dairy competition last week. More than 90 entries were tabled for the contest, which replaced the cancelled dairy judging at the Canterbury Show in the wake of Covid-19. Instead, the exhibitors prepared their cows at home on-farm, as they would have done at the show. And, the judge – Corey Ferguson, from Otorohanga – moved between farms pointing and placing the animals between November ... Change at the top In an enthralling game of netball in the Premier grade, Kaiapoi came back against the youthful Rangiora High senior A team, to win 43-37. It was an even contest throughout the match, with Kaiapoi pulling away in the final quarter. Ohoka one defeated Ohoka two 80-14, and Central pipped Amberley in their match 41-38. That leaves Ohoka one and Central now at the top of the table. Points: Ohoka one 8, Central 8, Amberley 5, ... Top Primary Runners The North Canterbury Primary Schools Cross Country event was held at the A&P Showgrounds in Rangiora this week. The event was run by the North Canterbury Sport and Recreation Trust, with 200 students running in two zones, Pegasus and Rakahuri. The top six in each zone are eligible to represent at the Canterbury Cross Country event at Halswell Quarry in August. The top runners in each year group were George Thorp (Year 5 boys), Maddie ... Country cricket lead changes again The Leeston Southbridge cricket team went back to the top of the Country One Day competition, with a solid win over Ohoka. Ohoka could only manage 93 from 35 overs. Harry Fitzpatrick contributing more than half of those runs with 40 not out, but nobody could stay with him. Leeston Southbridge reached the target within 15 overs, 97/2. In the match between Darfield and previous competition leaders Weedons, Darfield amassed 222/6 in their 45 overs. ...
