And then there were two

The finalists for the Canterbury Country Cricket 45 over competition have been found, with Leeston- Southbridge defeating Oxford-Rangiora, and Cheviot overcoming Southbrook.

Oxford-Rangiora set a target of 186 from their 45 overs, with Rhys Mariu top scoring with 68.  The middle order got starts but were unable to go on, with Ethan Hobbs and Mitch Power getting 20 and 24 respectively.  Sam Chamberlain was the best bowler for Leeston-Southbridge, taking 4/38.  Oxford-Rangiora picked up the early wicket of Toby Doyle for a duck, but Rupert Young put on 86, ably assisted by Sam Chamberlain with 65, and Leeston-Southbridge reached their target in 41.4 overs.

In the other semi-final, Cheviot’s Ted Whelan batted through for 90 not out, as Cheviot amassed 207/10 off just 39.2 overs. Despite 2 four wicket bags from Luan Blom, and Jonathan Green, it was a healthy number on the scoreboard.  The top order for Southbrook didn’t really fire, and despite some middle order resistance from Shanan Stewart with 24, and Gus Mowat with 34, they fell for 125 in the 35th over.  Scott Burnett was superb with the ball, collecting 6/26.

The final between Leeston-Southbridge and Cheviot will be held on the 21st March at Mainpower Oval.
