Dragons cling to hope

The Dragons were defeated 0-2 at home to Team Wellington in the penultimate round of the ISPS Handa Premiership football competition. The match started with shared possession, and with both sides scrambling to diffuse some early attacks, but around the 30 minute mark Team Wellington found the first goal after a deflected shot left keeper Danny Knight in his 50th match, no chance of saving. The match continued with Team Wellington getting a little more dominant, although Canterbury United looked dangerous on the counter. However, with five minutes to go in the first half Team Wellington found a second goal. The Dragons worked hard to get one back before the halftime whistle but to no avail and Team Wellington led 2-0 at halftime.

Both teams came out strongly in the second half, and called on their keepers and defence to make some good saves, but neither could find the net, and match ended 2-0 to Team Wellington.

Despite the loss the Dragons can still make the playoffs, but their fate is now in the hands of others. They will need a win over the Phoenix Reserves this weekend, and for results to go their way in other matches, to sneak into fourth place.
