Kaiapoi Take Early Lead

In the North Canterbury Division One competition, Glenmark Cheviot retained the Deans Shield with a 20-3 win over Hurunui. Harnett and Keane scored the tries for Glenmark Cheviot, and Brook Retallick converted both, along with two penalties. Hickey converted a penalty for Hurunui.

In the match at Kaiapoi Park, Oxford began with plenty of possession, but it was the Kaiapoi side that was able to convert their time with the ball, winning 25-12, and taking an early lead in the competition. Saracens defeated Ohoka 16-6, and Woodend went down to Ashley 0-48.

Points: Kaiapoi 10, Saracens 8, Ashley 6, Hurunui 5, Glenmark Cheviot 5, Ohoka 0, Oxford 0, Woodend 0.

In the women’s competition, Kaiapoi faced High School Old Boys, and Kaiapoi Park.  High School Old Boys put Kaiapoi under constant pressure especially at scrum time, but to their credit, the local girls hung in, eventually being defeated 15-21.

Points: Christchurch 10, Kaiapoi 6, Linwood 5, Lincoln Uni Ewes 5, University of Canterbury 5, HSOB 4, Lincoln Uni Hoggets 2, Celtic 0.

The Rangiora HIgh school 1st XV were away again this week, playing St Bedes College. The match was evenly contested but it was St Bedes who took the win 13-7. Rangiora High School currently sit 6th in the competition.
