The Kaiapoi women’s rugby team got their first win on the board with a solid 34-14 win over Celtic. The result lifts them off the bottom of the table. In the Country Combined competition, Saracens remain at the top of the table after their 33-14 win over Hurunui in the weekend. Kaiapoi are next on the ladder, picking up points over third placed Glenmark Cheviot. Their hard-fought encounter finished with Kaiapoi taking the win 20-13. Ohoka were dominant over Woodend 41-16, and Oxford continued their recent good form with a 37-5 win over Ashley. In the Ellesmere pools, Darfield have taken the lead in pool A, and Southern remain top of Pool B. Points: Saracens 22, Kaiapoi 19, Glenmark Cheviot 18, Oxford 12, Ohoka 10, Ashley 7, Hurunui 5, Woodend 3. The Rangiora High School 1st XV faced Timaru Boys High School at home, but struggled to finish any attacking moves. Timaru on the other hand were fierce out wide, and took the win 35-0.
