23 November On Track November 23, 2020 By Pam Fraser Sport With only a few weekends of interclub athletics to go before Christmas break, North Canterbury junior athletes are building towards the Colgate games in January. A number of athletes pulled out some excellent results putting them on track for some competitive results for those competing in the new year. Top 3 placings: Miriama Johnathan 8girls 1st Discus Lily Morrison 11girls 3rd 100m, 3rd Long Jump Sienna Watson 14girls 1st Long Jump, 2nd 100m Mya Phillips 14girls 1st Discus, 2nd Long Jump Farai Musesengwa 9boys 1st 60m, 1st 200m Isaac Fernando 9boys 3rd Shot Put. Pippa Baker also finished 3rd in the 12-15yr women’s 800m at the senior interclub in the afternoon. Related Articles Bulldogs back on track The Northern Bulldogs got back on winning track with a try fest over the Papanui Tigers, 50-24. It wasn’t all plain sailing though, as they were behind at halftime, but tries to Atunaisa Takubu (2), Zac Riley (2), Nick Wain, Petaia Saukuru, Vinnie Paul, Kayne Smith, Lucuster Mati, and Viliame Koroi, along with four goals from Manu Tipio, saw them safely home, and back into equal top of the table. The Canterbury Cup reserves had ... Placings on the track Over the weekend a small team of North Canterbury athletes competed at Nga Puna Wai. In the Childrens event Farai Musesengwa picked up first placings in the 9 boys 60m and 200m events. Mya Phillips also won her 14 girls Discus. Lily Morrison was 2nd in the 11 girls 100m, and Jake Boyd was 3rd in the 10 boys 1500m race. In the afternoon the South Island athletics championships took place, with Jade Kruger picking ... Gutbuster The North Canterbury BMX Club held their annual Gutbuster event in the weekend, at the Rangiora BMX track. It was a hot and sometimes blustery day for the riders who took on the track, with few spills but lots of thrills. North Canterbury riders won three of the events, with Cooper Murphy winning the 8 boys, Matthew Snelling taking out the Cruiser Class, and Riley Smart picking up the top podium spot in the 10 ... Promising results North Canterbury BMX riders were competing in the Mainland North Region Championships, held across the weekend at the Christchurch City BMX track, and at home at the North Canterbury BMX track in Rangiora. They had some promising results leading into what will be a very big weekend at the North Canterbury club this weekend, as they host the South Island Championships. Making the podium were Leo Gardner 8boys 3rd, Riley Smart 11boys 1st, Tahlia Hansen ... South Island Titles Claimed North Canterbury BMX riders claimed two South Island titles, plus six other podium places, after the Championships were held on their home track over the weekend. The event was a credit to all of the volunteers who helped get the track ready, officiated, and looked after the competitors on race day. Rage on the Rakahuri The Rakahuri Rage is a six hour team mountain bike relay race, held on the tracks near the Ashley river, and is open to riders 12 years and over. The event is organised by the North Canterbury Sport and Recreation Trust, with proceeds going to the Mainpower Waiswim program and Primary Schools Sports Coaching program.
