Premier men win again

The North Canterbury men’s premier basketball team have picked up another win in their up and down season. Despite struggling for a bit of consistency they have been competitive against all teams. This week they defeated Lincoln University 89-81.  They were stayed ahead on the scoreboard throughout the match, despite a final quarter comeback by the students.  Ethan Rusbatch was the top scorer with 42 points, and Jon Martin added 14.

The women’s premier team were dominant in their win over Lincoln University 92-54. Mary Goulding dropped in 45 points with Gemma Etheridge contributing 14.

The North Canterbury under 21 women’s team were defeated by Checkers 59-81, and the men’s under 20 team were also defeated by Pioneer Cashmere 82-114. In the under 18 women’s grade North Canterbury went down to Avonside 59-69, but Rangiora High School had a win over the St Andrews College juniors 75-52.

In the youth A grades, the Rangiora High under boy’s 17 team defeated Rolleston College in a tight match 60-56. Both North Canterbury under 15 girl’s teams are through to the semifinals after their wins in the weekend. North Canterbury Maroon defeated Selwyn 80-38, and the White team defeated Checkers 69-39.
In the under 13 boys grades the North Canterbury Cheetahs progressed to the semis with their win over the North Canterbury Pumas 92-67. The Tigers and Lions bowed out with losses to Cowles Black 63-73, and Wharenui Gators 102-35, respectively.

In the midweek secondary schools' competition, the Rangiora High School girls were defeated in their division one semifinal, by Middleton 66-83. The boys had already been knocked out of their qualifying final the week earlier.  However, in the boy’s division two competition both Rangiora New Life and Kaiapoi High School are through to the semifinals. Rangiora New Life by virtue of finishing in the top two, and Kaiapoi who defeated Linwood 97-85. In the division two girl’s competition Kaiapoi High lost to Lincoln 65-96, and Rangiora New Life defeated Riccarton High 107-64
