Premier Women rack up ten

The North Canterbury women’s basketball team have racked up their tenth win from ten games in the Premier competition, defeating Halswell 89-50.  Mary Goulding again led the way with 40 points, and Esra McGoldrick added a further 23. They will be aiming to win their last few games to go through the season unbeaten.



The Premier men were defeated by Checkers 78-101. Nat Connell top scored with 27, and Kieran Ball dropped in 18 points.
In the youth A grades, the North Canterbury under 13 boys Lions were beaten by the Wharenui Gators 46-84, but the Tigers defeated Celebration 75-42. The under 15 girls Maroon team defeated Pioneer 72-45, but the White team were narrowly beaten by Gators 54-57. The Rangiora High School under 17 boys had a win over the Riccarton Gators 98-73. In the women’s under 18 grade North Canterbury were defeated by the St Andrews Juniors 57-68, but the Rangiora High girls pipped Avonside 72-69. The North Canterbury under 20 men went down to St Bedes 75-82.  The North Canterbury under 21 women defeated University of Canterbury 78-57.
Midweek the Rangiora High School boys had a big win over Riccarton High, 118-40, in the division one Thompson Trophy competition. They also celebrated the announcement of Caleb Murray in the 2020 South Island High Schools All Stars selection. In division two Rangiora New Life went down to Rolleston 75-109, but Kaiapoi High defeated Papanui 116-83.
The Rangiora High School girls also had a strong win over Papanui 80-52 in the division one Whelan Trophy competition. In division two Kaiapoi High had a heartbreaking 59-60 loss to Villa Maria.
