Queens win

The Kaiapoi Queens premier women’s softball team had a good win 2-0 over Papanui in the weekend. It wasn’t enough to lift them off the bottom of the competition, but will give them confidence heading into the second round.

Points: Halswell 21, PCU 21, Sydenham Kereru 18, Papanui 9, Kaiapoi 8

The Kaiapoi Kings premier men’s softball team had a Friday night clash with PCU. Unfortunately, PCU were just too strong on the night winning 11-6. Backing up on Saturday, the Kings also went down to current leaders Papanui 10-2.

Points: Papanui 29, PCU 18, Albion 17, Kaiapoi 10, Halswell 10.

With the completion of the first round of the Premier competition, the first-round statistics are in, and despite their places on the competition ladder, the batting stats are headed by Kaiapoi players. Black Sox player Nerissa McDowell leads the women’s batting, with Caitlin Kennett 6th, and Major Sox U23 representative Josh Lubiejewski is at the top of the men’s batting statistics. Craig Higgs and Hunter Simpson are both also tied for 7th.

Hunter Simpson has also recently been selected in the Junior Black Sox Training Squad.
