Rage on the Rakahuri

The Rakahuri Rage is a six hour team mountain bike relay race, held on the tracks near the Ashley river, and is open to riders 12 years and over. The event is organised by the North Canterbury Sport and Recreation Trust, with proceeds going to the Mainpower Waiswim program and Primary Schools Sports Coaching program. Riders can compete in teams of 2-4, in a number of categories, or as solo riders. The 7km loop course features single tracks and stop bank roads.

This years event attracted 106 teams, ranging from primary school teams, to veteran teams, and everything in between. The fastest team was the “Full Sent” junior team, completing 21 laps. In second place was the “HBH” team, another junior team. And third overall was “Small Business Accountants”, who also won the corporate category. The fastest solo rider was Olly Pearce, who finished 5th overall.

Male Family Team: The Wheel Deal – 76th overall
Open Men’s Team: Waikuku Warriors – 6th overall
Solo Male: Olly Pearce – 5th overall
Veteran Men’s Team: Cupid Stunts – 15th overall
Open Women’s Team: Styx Apiaries Stingers – 29th overall
Veteran Women’s Team: Huffed, Puffed, and Stuffed – 44th overall
Mixed Corporate: Small Business Accountants – 3rd overall
Mixed Family Team: 2D - 27th overall
Mixed Junior Team: Full Sent – 1st overall
Mixed Open Team: Styx Apiaries Mixed Bees – 10th overall
Old Cranks Mixed: DFP Blue Brigade – 8th overall
Mixed Primary School: Kranksters – 48th overall
