31 March School softballers second March 31, 2021 By Pam Fraser Sport The Kaiapoi High School girls softball team competed at the South Island Secondary Schools Softball tournament in Alexandra. On day one they had solid wins over Riccarton High 11-2, and Dunstan High 7-2. They met a very strong Southland Girls team on day two, losing 1-19, but picked themselves up to defeat Ashburton College 14-0. Later in the afternoon they lost to Dunstan 6-12. Day three they met Southland again in the second round losing 1-11, but defeated Riccarton 10-0. On the final day they defeated Ashburton College in a run fest, 17-11, giving them enough points to make the final against Southland Girls. It was a much closer match, but Southland ran out winners 8-1, and Kaiapoi took home silver.
