The Canterbury Country cricket one day final was held at Mainpower Oval over the weekend between Sefton and Darfield. Darfield batted first, but were soon in trouble when Jed Roberts knocked over openers Zac and Liam Foulkes for not many, and Jeff Jones followed up by dismissing Darfield’s 3 & 4, Jesse Frew and Tom Dempster cheaply soon after. Ripping through the middle order Jones finished with 4/36. At 60/4, Darfield batsman Ryan Hughes settled the batting innings a little, scoring 64, and Darfield were able to get through to 177/10 off 44.2 overs. Darfield were delighted with the start of their defence, removing McKenzie Smith for a duck, third ball. However, Chris Warner 32, Matt Laffey 56, and Lance Taylor 56 not out, calmly went about the run chase, and Sefton secured the trophy with 178/4 in the 42nd over. In the plate final, Weedons defeated Oxford Rangiora by 130 runs.
