12 June Summerfield slides out of lockdown to win June 12, 2020 By Pam Fraser Sport The Autosport Car Club held their first rally since lockdown in the weekend, at Mt Alexander, in Waikari. This was a great opportunity for the rally enthusiasts to get their cars back out racing. Mt Alexander Road is 4.5kms of undulating gravel road, with a hard base. The first half is relatively open with a very long straight, two small fords and a bridge crossing. The course then becomes twisty and along the side of a creek, then into a sweeping uphill section to the finish. The conditions were a little slippery but not icy. First home overall, and in class 4, in the 2020 event was local rally driver, Matt Summerfield, in his Mitsubishi Mirage AP4. Summerfield said he was thankful to the Autosport Car Club for putting on an event when it was safe to, given the recent events. The day went very smoothly for the Mirage, which ran better than Summerfield expected, and he said it was great to be having a proper drive in the car, which was still quite new to him. The second driver across the line, was Sean Haggarty, in his WRX, followed by Blair Logan in his Evo. The winner of class 3 was Marcus van Klink. Class 2 was won by Dean Johnston, and class 1 by Harry Judd. The next event for Summerfield is the Kaiwara Road, north of Cheviot, on 19th July. For more information about the Autosport Club (Inc.)
