Top Sticks in Action

This weekend saw the men’s and women’s division one hockey competitions begin on turfs around Canterbury.  The Rangiora teams were at home on the Waimakariri Turf, which saw the men’s team defeated by Southern 0-2. The women’s team had a better result, with a 1-0 win over Southern, in an exciting end to end game. The Rangiora team scored in the first half and were able to keep that lead for the win.

In the women’s division 2-3 grading, Rangiora D3 were defeated 1-5. The D2 team had the bye. The men’s division three match saw Rangiora defeat the University Barbarians 4-2.

The Rangiora Platinum division one men’s side were defeated by Harewood 1-4, whilst the division two women were defeated 1-5 by Waikirikiri.  The Hinemoa Kaiapoi Miro women’s team fought for a 2-1 win over Avon. In Platinum division three, the Rangiora B women defeated Harewood Gold 4-0, and the Hinemoa Kaiapoi Tawa team played out a 1-1 draw with Harewood Black.

In mid week action, the local derby in the division two men’s grade between Rangiora and Hinemoa Kaiapoi, was fiercely contested, with Rangiora winning 2-1. And the Rangiora Hurunui women’s division two team lost 1-2 to HSOB Burnside.
