With the North Canterbury netball competition in a reduced capacity due to the Covid restrictions, it was good timing for the Rangiora High School and Oxford Area School netball teams as they played in a regional secondary school’s tournament this week. In the A grade Rangiora had three losses in pool play. The first, a cruel one goal defeat at the hands of Christchurch Girls High School 29-30. They had another close loss to Craighead 26-30, and were also beaten by St Margarets 18-30. However, they bounced back in the 5th-8th semifinals to beat Rangiora Ruru 31-26 and finished the tournament off with another win getting revenge on Craighead, 33-18, to finish in 6th place. It was also tough going for Oxford Area School in the B grade. They struggled first up to St Margarets B 10-42 but overcame Hornby 29-21 in their second match. In the third game in pool play they were defeated by Avonside Girls 16-31. They lost their 5th-8th semifinal at the hands of Ellesmere College 22-28, but showed their dominance over Hornby again, 26-14, to finish in 7th place.
