Transfer Stations Open up More Services

Transfer Stations Open up More Services

The move to Alert Level 2 tomorrow sees more services becoming available at both the Southbrook Resource Recovery Park and Oxford Transfer Station.

Most services are back, with some exceptions.

The recycling drop-off areas will re-open although residents are asked to pre-sort items so that the drop off is quick. Numbers of visitors will be limited to make sure physical distancing is in place.

At Oxford there will be a limit of two vehicles in the rubbish drop off area, two in recycling and one in green waste.

At Southbrook there will be a limit of two vehicles allowed in the recycling drop off area, one on each side. Three bays are open in green waste and at the rubbish pit.

Solid Waste Manager Kitty Waghorn asks visitors to be patient. Rural residents and those outside of the Kerbside Collection Area will be dropping off stockpiled materials, so it’s expected to be busy.

“Having to limit the number of vehicles in the recycling drop-off area will also create delays. We’re asking people to pre-sort items before you arrive to make the drop-off as quick and efficient as possible.”

What using the transfer stations will look like under Alert Level 2:

  • Transfer stations are open their usual hours
  • Two people per vehicle is ok. Staff will not be able to help customers with bulky items so bring someone to help unload
  • We will be recording licence plates for contact tracing
  • Staff will direct visitors and limit vehicles in the disposal areas to allow physical distancing to be maintained – please follow instructions
  • Card payments are preferred
  • The rubbish pit and green waste areas are open - please maintain 2m separation from other people
  • Waimakariri District Council rubbish bags may still be dropped off
  • Fridges, freezers and heat pumps can only be accepted with certification that they have been degassed.
  • The ReSale Store and Cust Rural Recycling Drop-off will remain closed.

We cannot accept under Alert Level 2:

  • Hazardous wastes such as chemicals, garden sprays and paint
  • Electrical waste
  • Child car seats
  • Household items for re-sale

Under Alert Level 2, contractors will resume kerbside bin swaps and repairs. To arrange this, contact our Customer Service Team on 0800 965 468 or email office@wmk.govt.nz
