Waimak share points

The Waimak United women’s premier team shared the points with Universities in their first match of the season at Kendall Park under lights.

Neither team showed a lot of dominance over the other, but both had gilt edged chances to score. Universities got on the board first when they broke through the Waimak defence and were taken down in the box, converting the ensuing penalty.  However soon after Emily Cooper fired a shot goal bound that sailed passed the Universities keeper McKenzie Falco. The score remained 1-1 heading into halftime.

The second half continued as an end-to-end battle, but Universities were again first to score, when a cross took a wicked deflection passed Waimak keeper Annie Foote, who was having a tremendous game in goal. This spurred Waimak into action and they started to keep possession for longer periods and Charlotte Roche was all over the park creating havoc for the Universities defence. In the dying minutes of injury time, Lily Gerard, who had put in some cracking corners, received a short one herself, and found the far corner of the goal, to level the match up 2-2. And so it ended, with the points shared, and probably a fair reflection of the match.
